Why CrossFit?
I find that exercise is tough to fit into my already over-crowed schedule. Day to day life with family, work and home renovations take up pretty much all my time. I know that I need a way to burn off some steam (de-stress a little) as well as set an example for my children about what a healthy lifestyle looks like. CrossFit is great for me because I can do the WOD early in the day, the workouts are planned by the gym and every class is a challenge. I pretty much always come away from the class feeling victorious and mentally refreshed although physically tired. The fellow class members are generally a great source of energy and inspiration for me as well. I really enjoy being a part of the CrossFit community where we have a lot of encouragement and camaraderie.

Biggest Achievement since having started CrossFit?
I have gained enough co-ordination and rhythm to do consecutive double-unders. Although not really well or for very long but compared to when I started CrossFit, it is a huge win for me. I was not able to even single skip when I began CrossFit.

Favourite WOD or favourite type of workout?
I don’t know that I have a favourite workout. I generally don’t think about it too much. I know that it goes against the good advice for strategizing of our excellent coaches and training staff, but most days I just show up without having previewed the workout. I put in the best effort that I can for that day and I’m happy with that. If I had to choose a favourite, it would probably be a chipper with pull-ups and without running.

How did you get started into CrossFit?
One of my co-workers had started in a CrossFit gym. Somehow she and Coach Ken arranged a plan to invite my entire office to the gym for an office workout, followed up by a repeat one week later. I gave it all I had and was incredibly sore after the first WOD. The follow up WOD was not any better but somehow I kind of liked the work and new that if I was going to do this, I would need the coaching. With consistent effort over the following several months I saw drastic improvements in my physical strength, mobility and my state of mind. On more than one occasion, my wife encouraged me to keep going since she saw the improvements as well. It has been a few years for me now since I began CrossFit, and I continue to enjoy it as a part of my life.

Favourite healthy meal?
I generally eat pretty clean (not much junk food) and I’m not a fussy eater. I like anything my wife makes.
